Email Only Accounts We receive many inquiries regarding email only accounts for those who do not wish to subscribe to internet access. Agape Mail offers this service at very low rates. Internet Filters Following is an updated list of Technology Committee approved filters. Please keep in mind that you will need two filters for your computer if you plan to use the internet. You will need one of the filters listed here, but first and foremost, you will need the filter of the Holy Spirit in your heart! We do not represent or sell the services listed below, but simply refer to them for your safety and convenience. We cannot guarantee pricing or service. Filter List The following three filters are quite similar in filtering strength. All of the hosting companies have been responsive to our input. Choices may be based on individual preferences. MyWebFilter MyWebFilter is a further refinement of the CleanInternet filter by the same company. It is a filter designed for conservative Christians and works well for business needs. The company has continued to enhance this filter to fit our brethren’s needs. Speed throughput is good. The user cannot uninstall or bypass this filter. The cost is $4.95 per month for one computer and $2.95 per each additional computer. Subscribers will need local ISP service. Note: If using an air card for Internet connection or if your computer is 64-bit, at this point MyWebFilter is a better choice. Those who are still using the CleanInternet filter should telephone the company and change over to MyWebFilter. We feel MyWebFilter works just as well and meets our needs in a safer way. AFO TotalNetGuard-Custom01 (formerly called ‘COGICM AFO’) This is a customized filter based on the AFO TotalNetGuard standard filter running on a dedicated server for our church’s users. The company is putting ongoing effort, with our input, into tailoring this filter to fit our Christian values while accommodating general business needs. Speed throughput is good. The user cannot uninstall or bypass this filter. Proxy settings are also offered for Macintosh computers and some wireless devices but are not lockdown. Those still using the non-COCICM version of TotalNetGuard should convert over to the “Custom01” version. Agape SafeGuardPlus This is a filter from AgapeInternet that was customized for our needs with extensive input from our brethren. It is a very effective filter, and likely the most secure on our list with comfortable business use capability. It may be found to be a bit restrictive for those with broader access needs. Free version without search capability: Christian Webfilter Free Version This is a white list filter envisioned to provide safe Internet use those who need a limited number of sites for their business. The white list includes over 10,000 sites for specific industries in building, hardware, automotive repair, tax preparation, accounting, and similar industries, plus banking sites and travel, airline reservation, car rental, news, and weather sites. Sites are added promptly when requested after being inspected. The focus is on business needs; lifestyle sites are not included. Search engines such as Google or Yahoo are not supported as the user could not go to the sites brought up in a search. There is no cost for this filter. The Christian Webfilter is a good option for someone with regular needs for the same sites. The user cannot uninstall or bypass this filter. On Vista and Windows 7, it is necessary to turn off the UAC (User Account Control) before installing. While this is a free service, we suggest a modest annual donation.
